Understanding the Reshape technology
Reshape is an exciting new option for weight loss candidates who desire a treatment less aggressive than bariatric surgery, but more effective than dieting and exercise. During treatment, a deflated dual-sphered balloon is inserted endoscopically through the mouth and tunneled down to the stomach where it is filled with sterile salt water. Am I a candidate for Reshape?
Like other gastric balloons, Reshape requires that clients be at least 18, have a BMI of around 30 to 40, and that they need to lose at least 25 lbs. Reshape differs however, by requiring the presence of a co-morbidity, which is an additional obesity-related health issue such as diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension or sleep apnea.
Contraindications for Reshape include drug or alcohol addiction; pregnancy or breastfeeding; previous bariatric surgery; refusal to participate in follow-up sessions; a physical intolerance to an endoscope; GI disorders; liver disease; use of aspirin or other inflammatory drugs; and as mentioned, a BMI of over 40.

In clinical trials, the Reshape system showed that study goers lost twice as much weight as they did with conventional dieting methods and exercise.
